I'd like to explain to people outside Japan why this book has a such subtitle.
Many people in Japan believe the relations between personality and ABO blood-type just like an astrology in Western culture. Furukawa, T., a Japanese professor of pedagogy and psychology, studied such relations from 1920s to 1930s. Some other researchers denied his theory because of a lack of reproducibility of the results before the World War II. Furukawa died in 1940 and his theory was just a passing popularity, and many Japanese forgot it in the chaos of postwar.
In early 1970s, the theory made a comeback. Nomi, M., who was a Japanese writer, wrote a book called "Understanding Affinity by Blood Type." His book became a best-seller. Many books and magazines regarding the relations were sold in Japan, and many TV shows also played up it. The belief of the relations became widespread all over Japan. Furthermore, some writers translate some of the books into Korean and Taiwan language, so some people outside Japan also believe that. Japanese psychologists started to study the relation again from 1980s. But no clear evidence that supports the relations between ABO blood-type and personality was found. Then their reserches changed a direction for exploring why people believe such relations in 1990s. And they found some cognitive bias and heuristics relate to processes of the belief.
I made an attempt to criticize such relations from the standpoint of personality psychology in this book, and also explain the basics of (personality) psychology by settling on the subject matter of such belief.
