Teaching Materials for Videos

I sometimes use videos in my classes at Waseda, and I've made worksheets to use with my students. As I have time, I'll be putting some of them on this web page in case they may be of use to others. If you can use them, please feel free to download them.

The worksheets are either sheets of questions about the movies or dialog exercises in which students practice their listening skills by filling in missing words. Some worksheets are a combination of the two. NOTE: I did the dialog transcriptions myself, and there may be some mistakes.

Stand and Deliver (1988)

I've used this movie in my Elementary English and Intermediate English class. I chose it in part because it deals with a few topics of interest to my students: the situation of minority groups in the U.S. and educational system in the U.S. (and how it is different from that of Japan)

Witness

We watched some scenes from this movie in Intermediate English in connection with the topic of "The American Religious Heritage"

Pleasantville (1998)

We are watching this movie in Intermediate English in connection with the chapter on The American Family in The American Ways. The idealized version of traditional family values and small town life are quite interesting to watch and discuss.

More movie materials will be uploaded eventually!
