A list of Linguistic Programs at universities around the world
Northwestern University Linguistics Department This is where I (Vicky Muehleisen) went to school! The department of linguistics is small, but good, especially for theoretical linguistics, including semantics, phonetics and phonology, syntax, and pragmatics.
Most students who ask me about studying linguistics are interested in applied linguistics. The programs below are especially large or well-known, so you might want to look at them first.
- U. of Hawaii Linguistics Program This school has a strong applied linguistics program, and Hawaii would be a really nice place to live!
- U. of Arizona Department of Linguistics This school has a large linguistics program
- University of Indiana Linguistics Program. This school has a very large linguistics program.
- Georgetown University Department of Linguistics. This school has programs in applied linguistics, theorectical linnguistics, sociolinguistics, and computational linguistics, and it publishes some well-known working papers.
