Pleasantville

Part 3

In part 3, more and more changes occur in the town, and more and more of the characters become "colored". The conservative people Pleasantville try stop the changes.

Questions about Part 3:

  1. What kinds of people attend the town meeting? How do they propose to stop the changes?

  2. What does David say to the T.V. man when he tries to make David leave?

  3. In the second part of the movie, turning colored seems to be related to sex--when people discover sex, they change. In part 3, we see that there are other kinds of events that can cause people to change. When and why does Bud become colored? How about Mary Sue? Bill Johnson? George Jenkins? The Mayor?

  4. Who makes up the "Code of Conduct" and what are some of the rules? What do the colored people think of the rules?

  5. When David returns to the real world, why does Jennifer decide to stay in the world of Pleasantville?
